BACK TO THE SPIRIT OF WATER

The cause for providing clean drinking water
for all living beings can really bring
peace and positive changes into the world.

Is safe drinking water a commodity to be bought and sold by multi-national corporations or controlled by governments? Should our governments be responsible for cleaning up the groundwater, the rivers, lakes and oceans because of the damage caused by industry and agriculture? Are countries with less water poised to fight water wars against countries that have an abundance? Is water the new oil and will superpowers use it to gain political and military status in the world? Is access to clean drinking water a fundamental human right and should it be provided to the people free or very inexpensively?

These are questions we need to be aware of because, right now, world governments and multi-national corporations are gearing up for some of the biggest wars humanity has ever known – water wars. We know that water is a baseline necessity for all life. However many water sources have been contaminated by toxic chemicals and sewage – the pollution of neglect. Large corporations want to privatize water systems in order to clean it up while creating profitable corporations. The greatest concern of WaterPeace Alliance is that at least 30% of the people on the planet have no access to clean drinking water and no ability to pay what corporations and governments want to charge.

Water is now considered by many to be the most precious resource on the planet. But clean, fresh, drinking water is growing scarcer by the decade. While water dominates the news related to the naturally destructive forces of hurricanes, floods, tsunamis, and snowstorms, the crises surrounding water goes much deeper. All over the world, water is contaminated by industrial pollution and waterborne disease pathogens causing on the average of 400 deaths per hour from dysentery and other intestinal illnesses. Today, there is slow progress to provide access to safe drinking water worldwide and currently 1.2 billion people on the planet are without a source for water that isn’t contaminated with the effluent and toxins caused by the failure of humans to insist on the protection of their watersheds and water resources.

Experts warn of a future dominated by an OPEC-like cartel of water-exporting nations. Already pipelines from Scotland to England and Turkey into central Europe are under consideration and companies are bidding on glacier water from the Arctic to sell abroad.

Environmental physicists have found ways to clean the dirty water in many villages from Mexico to the Philippines. And currently, there are hundreds of water-interest groups helping bring information and clean water technology into areas that suffer from a lack of potable, safe water. We believe that when safe water is available for all beings on the planet, this will be the first step to global health and wellbeing, bringing about peace for all. Water Peace.
