Sing The Gayatri Mantra

Why we chose these musicians to share their remarkable versions

Our peace work is personal, non-denominational, and not tied to any particular spiritual path. And yet, those Sanskrit sounds, mostly used in other world religions, and especially the Gayatri Mantra, have a profound affect on us and any person who hears them or chants them, regardless of spiritual origin. We usually hear healing Sanskrit chants repeated in Hindu or Tibetan practices, as used in Vedic, Kirtan or mantra practices, though the origins of Sanskrit are from its own tradition. Sanskrit healing mantras have a powerful affect on the body, no matter what dialect or religious practice in which they are used. With no intention to conscript this material in a disrespectful way to those use use mantra in their religious practices, we intend to offer this healing music and these healing sounds in a format the masses of Western-conditioned singers can musically identify with. Thus, we made a choice of the two versions of the Gayatri Mantra featured here. But we highly encourage you to find other versions you prefer. It won’t change the outcome in the least.

Our preferred versions of The Gayatri Mantra have a contemporary sound that is pleasing to many who do not resonate or respond to the sounds of Indian or Tibetan Classical Music. After all, it is the sounds that are important, and the easier they are for people to sing and understand, the greater will be the peace-inspiring affects on the body, mind & spirit
